The chain is a nice heavy weight sterling silver (it is even marked as .925 to show that it is really sterling silver). I am very allergic to anything that is not sterling silver, and I have had no problems with this chain. 3 of 5 found this review helpful: I really like this pendant, 2007-12-24 I'm not one to wear a lot of jewelry, but I really like this piece. I was concerned of the small size from the other user's photos, however, I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. I thought that since it was so small that it would look awkward, but it doesn't. It looks especially good if you wear it with a v-neck t-shirt. Only issue I had was that I thought the actual dog tag would be larger but I shared my own customer images to show the size of it. Silver looks nice and the chain seems durable.
